The Parking Block & Wheel Stop Buyer’s Guide
Choosing recycled plastic or recycled rubber parking blocks over traditional concrete offers several long-term advantages for your facility:
- Eco-Friendly: Made from 100% recycled materials.
- Low Maintenance: Molded-in color means they never need painting.
- Easy Installation: Lightweight enough for a one-person setup without heavy machinery.
- Pavement Friendly: Easily removable for sealcoating, asphalt repairs, or snow plowing.
- Cost-Effective: High durability results in a lower total cost of ownership.
- Free Hardware: Choice of four mounting styles included free with every order.
When to Use Parking Blocks & Car Stops
Parking blocks (also known as wheel stops or car stops) are essential for parking lot safety and organization. They are designed to:
- Assist drivers in aligning their vehicles within a designated space.
- Provide a tactile signal when a vehicle is fully parked.
- Prevent "pull-through" accidents where drivers exit a space by driving forward into oncoming traffic.
- Clearly designate reserved spaces for handicapped or electric vehicle (EV) parking.
Pro Tip: Parking blocks are visual and tactile cues. They are not designed to physically "stop" a speeding vehicle; rather, they signal the driver to stop.
Choosing the Right Color for Your Parking Lot
Visibility is the most important factor when selecting a color for your plastic car stops:
- Safety Yellow: The most popular choice. Provides maximum visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.
- Concrete Gray: Ideal for a traditional look. These provide the aesthetic of concrete without the crumbling, cracking, or exposed rebar.
- Handicapped Blue: The industry standard for ADA-compliant parking spaces.
- Arctic White: Often used to match white parking lot striping. Note: Not recommended for high-snow areas where they may blend into the ground.
Recycled Plastic Parking Blocks
We stock two primary styles of heavy-duty plastic parking blocks for immediate shipment:
- Commercial Blocks: 6-foot injection-molded blocks ideal for standard retail and commercial lots.
- Industrial Blocks: Solid extruded 4-foot or 6-foot blocks so durable they feature a lifetime warranty against breakage.
Our plastic blocks are UV-stable and resistant to road salt, oil, and chemicals. Choose from 12” galvanized steel spikes, 8” lag bolts, Large Diameter TapCons (LDT), or our 18” heavy-duty spikes.
Reflective Rubber Parking Blocks
Our recycled rubber parking blocks are available in 3’, 4’, and 6’ lengths. Because rubber is naturally flexible, these blocks conform to the undulations of uneven surfaces, making them the best choice for gravel parking lots or older, cracked asphalt.
